What does STFU mean?

STFU is an abbreviation for a direct and deeply efficient phrase: “shut the fuck up.”

It is usually used when someone has said too much, talked too long, posted too confidently, or otherwise converted oxygen into a public nuisance. The phrase is rude, blunt, and not especially subtle, which is probably why it has survived online for so long.

On this site, it is preserved as an artifact of the old internet: crude, simple, image-heavy, and refreshingly free of newsletter popups, engagement funnels, and other modern crimes against attention.
